Blackout curtain is commonly installed for the purpose of blocking solar heat & sunlight. We have done a case study at one of the premise and taken a glass panel photo with digital & infrared scan.

CURTAIN BLOCK SUNLIGHT BUT ABSORB HEAT

The premise has a huge glass panel with blackout curtain. The blackout curtain works perfectly in blocking sunlight but fail to block heat penetration to indoor. This is proven by the result of the infrared camera as below:

a) The glass temperature is 46.6 °C (Sp1)
b) Right curtain temperature is 57.0 °C (Sp2)
c) Left curtain temperature is 52.2 °C (Sp3)

The case study shown that the solar heat penetrates easily to indoor through the glass panel. The heat absorbed by curtain and turn it to be a hot spot. This hot spot slowly releases the heat back to the indoor. It creates indoor temperature to arise and more energy (air-cond) is needed to cool down the room.
